Explanation. ============== Virtually all re- search projects begin by retriev- ing about 200 of the most recent "review" citations from MEDLINE. These provide an overview of the different as- pects of the sub- ject, and they are in reverse chronological order so that you obtain the most recent, first. Most of the cita- tions will not be directly related to your inquiry; but all you need is to find a few that are, and, from that point. you can do more directed searches as in the routines of "2" (particularly "2b"). Novices may be able to use these "expert summaries" but, more likely, will need to print and use the book chapter, using the link, above.

#1 - Log to: MEDLINE

#2 - National Library of Medicine / PubMed.

#3 - Type in your search term, select the "Go" button.

#4 - Select the "Limits" link.

#5 - Select the "Publication Types" menu, select "Review", select "Go".

#6 - In the "Display" menu, select "Abstract"; and in the "Show" menu select 200 or 500.

#7 - Select "Text" button. Review your retrieval. Save your data to disk, and use your word processor to organize the information.
